One Year After Graduation: Some Lessons I’ve Learned

Today officially marks one year since I’ve started my journey into the real world. I won’t sugarcoat this; it has been rough. Job applications one after another, confusion, and complete break downs. I had moments of wishing I could run back into school to avoid all these responsibilities, but here I am a year later writing all about my insane journey of adulthood. Don’t worry, not everything has been rough. I’ve had such exciting moments to go along with this ride.

This year I’ve probably made more mistakes than ever. For all my recent graduates, just know your first year isn’t going to be perfect or ideal. You’ll find yourself probably more frustrated than ever with yourself and with how your life may be turning out. However, this was the most fulfilling year of my life.

No, I don’t have the dream job.

I’m not in my field. In fact, I’ve been on my own journey for the last few months figuring out what I even want to do. I’m going through a career crisis. (I’ll share my stories in a different post.)  However, through this I just learned more about myself. I have so many passions to the point where I realized I may just be a person who may have multiple side projects or may look into being an entrepreneur.

Just know that confusion and change of heart is okay. It’s okay to not be working your dream job or even being in your field of study. It’s okay to have a change of heart after a new experience. Again, IT IS OKAY. You’ll survive! I still have a job, able to pay my loans and still do me while I figure this whole career thing out. I’m doing more than surviving, I’m living.

Self Care > Partying, Oh Yeah.

I’m not saying when you start adulating you’re not going to party. I still go out with friends here and there, but I’ve found myself enjoying time to myself. Even after work I gravitate towards going home because self care comes first. If I’m extremely tired, I rather go home and give my body what it needs versus playing basketball with friends. If you know you’ve been over worked, it’s okay to say no to a night out clubbing or to dinner. If you wanted to take a bath all week or simply cook for yourself, then do it. No one is stopping you. In the end, your personal growth can only flourish if you look after yourself.

Yes, I have bigger and better goals.

When I left Manhattanville, I had goals that I honestly thought I’d complete by now. However, this easily changes. Things happen, you figure out new things about yourself, and sometimes you realize maybe you don’t want those things anymore. While my goals may not be the same, I have new ones - ones that I find manageable and know they have an outcome that will work for me. I’ve even started getting into Manifestation (That’ll be in another post, I promise.) Again, it’s okay to change goals.

Stay on track.

One big thing that tends to happen post grad is constantly comparing your path to someone else’s. While I didn’t have very much of this, when I did catch myself doing that, I reminded myself of my goals and aspirations FOR ME. You need to remember that everything will happen when it should and, while you may think people around you are ahead, who knows? In their eyes you could be ahead of them. As long as you are following your path, no one can take that away from you. I believe in reminding yourself of your goals daily to keep your eyes on the road ahead.

Money can be stressful. (Like, a lot.)

I get it. We all need money. Paying back loans, bills or living on your own can be expensive as hell. However, this is when that Personal Finance course I took in college came in handy. It may be helpful to come up with a financial plan. Part of adulating is also beginning to notice your spending habits. I use to spend up to 50 bucks on buying food everyday for work. While I loved my arroz con pollo and bubble tea, meal prep instead and avoid extra spending everyday. Plus, I’m eating a lot cleaner, which is a bonus for your health. The way I see it, if you have a financial plan and save when you can, you’ll find yourself being rewarded a lot more than you think.

Before I left Manhattanville, I saw myself in a completely different light. I had this picture in my head of where I saw myself at this point and now my image is completely different. Where I am today is not where I planned to be, but it’s what I’m loving right now. Which leads me to the last and biggest lesson - as long as you’re happy and doing what you love, then that’s what matters.

Final reminder, IT’S GOING TO BE OKAY!

Congratulations to the Class of 2018 and Happy One Year to all my fellow 2017 graduates. We taking life one day at a time.

Fashion: Transitioning Darks Into Spring

It's been awhile since I've done a fashion post! After having spent most of my time moving this winter, I didn't have much time to put together a fashion piece. However, I will bring a lot more for the warmer months!

While New York isn't hitting spring weather just yet, I'm already starting to make small transitions in my wardrobe. It's not exactly time to start flashing bright pastels in everyones faces yet, but it's certainly time to retire olive and burgundy colors. I love dark colors which makes the transition a bit hard for me as I begin to slowly move into my spring wardrobe.

Spring doesn't necessarily mean you need to go full on bright and colorful just yet. You can play it low and bring in lighter tones in general. For example, swap out a deep gray for a lighter toned gray.

Jacket: Primark
Bodysuit: Forever 21
Jeans: American Eagle
Boots: Primark
Handbag: Primark

I certainly didn't mean to pick a lot of items from Primark, but it just so happens Primark has some of my current favorite pieces. Leather jackets can be expensive and if you want a stylish one without breaking your budget, I spent 20 bucks for mine. I've had it for a few months now and I haven't had any issues. Leather jackets are perfect for months like fall and spring, but also just timeless pieces to have in general. It makes a statement and can easily add some edge to any outfit.

The crossbody bag gives me luxury vibes without me draining my entire savings for an actual luxury handbag. I've also had this as well for awhile and I've had no issues so far. It also holds quite a lot which for me personally is a plus. I was able to fit a bunch of touch up makeup, cards/cash, a hair brush and my charger in here. That works for me!

As for the over the knee boots, I love keeping a little bit of my dark colors during my transition periods. These boots are super comfortable. Also, if you're a wide calf girl like me they fit perfectly!

Bodysuits are a must in my wardrobe! They help make me appear slimmer and I just feel sexy wearing them. I have one for every occasion. The lighter toned grey lightens up the look, making it more spring appropriate.

Lastly, American Eagle jeans are my favorite jeans to wear. I went with the light wash again to brighten up everything, but it also pairs nicely with the bodysuit.

My transition period usually lasts until almost mid April. However, to get myself into the spring spirit I start using warm colors on my nails, brighten up my makeup looks, and even begin thinking of what to do with my hair for the warmer months.

Keep in mind, this is only how I transition and everyone has a different way of switching into the new weather. I hope some of my advice was helpful and gave you some inspiration on how to still incorporate some of your winter pieces into spring.

Beauty Product Round Up: What I've Been Loving So Far In 2018

Every year I find myself trying so many new beauty products, and most of them make it permanently into my go-to collection. This varies, of course, between makeup and skin care, but they are products that I would recommend to my own friends. I decided to share my top 5 products I've been loving so far in 2018 that I believe you should add to your shopping list.

Note: I linked each item. Just click on the product name!

I always shop at Lush at least once a month. Yes, I buy a bunch of bath bombs, but I recently picked up a face mask since my skin has been acting up lately. The 1,000 Millihelens mask is a jelly texture which is so weird, but so cool and satisfying! They have four other jelly face masks. Each one targets different skin concerns. This one helps detoxify, brighten and even out the skin, which is exactly what I've been needing.  It contains green tea and witch hazel, which are amazing for skin. To use, just pinch off a bit of the jelly, rub between your hands and apply to your face for 10 minutes. My skin is renewed, and I can see how much brighter it appears right after use. If you're looking for a natural face mask that's fun, give this a shot.

I started using this primer in October and purchased the travel size to see if I'd like it enough to commit to a large one. Recently, I purchased the larger size and it was worth every dollar! This primer is oil free and great if you have oily skin. Not only is my oil controlled, but this product has SPF and it doesn’t leave you with a white cast, even with flash photography. That's perfect. It also had a matte finish which is a plus. For all my people who believe in primers, this is definitely one to try.

I’m late on joining in on this product, but WOW! I always have a hard time finding the best concealer and this product has really changed my concealer game. I picked up three, one for highlighting, one to contour and the orange corrector to correct my dark circles and spots. My face looks so flawless with these concealers and the coverage is unbelievable. My under eyes have never looked so good! I found that it sets nicely so that I don't experience intense creasing like I used to. The best part is that it's a drugstore concealer! You can find them at CVS and they cost just about 5 bucks. So if you're not trying to break the bank for a good concealer, definitely look into this.

Now, we all know I'm all about my winged eye liner. With that being said, I'm always on the hunt for great liquid eye liners that don't dry out fast and gives me a nice precise line. This Stila liquid eye liner does that. It's super black, gives me the perfect pointy edge, and is waterproof! It lasts all day long and I never have to deal with a single smudge. If you love liquid eye liner as much as me, give this a go. You won't regret it.

These lashes have changed my lash game! I'm not over exaggerating. I've gotten so many compliments on them. I tried them at the end of last year and have been obsessed ever since! This pair is probably the most popular out of Huda Beauty lashes because I had to go to three different Sephora stores just to find them in stock. While I love them, they aren’t made for every day use. You could probably get away with wearing them for a week before the band breaks. Either way, these lashes look incredibly natural and really opens up the eye. It's great to keep these in your collection to wear for special occasions.

What are some of your favorite products for 2018 so far? Also, I’ll be returning back to YouTube with my first video in about a week! What videos would you like to see?

My Designer Wish List: Louis Vuitton, Jimmy Choo, & Chanel!

It’s New York Fashion Week and, being the fashion obsessed woman that I am, you know I’m freaking out. Every year I drool over the fresh pieces from some of my favorite designers, and it always gets me thinking about my luxury wish list.

Yes, I have a luxury wish list and I probably add new items to it at least twice a year. For years I’ve been building up a wish list of expensive handbags, shoes, or even jewlary that I love and plan to own someday. Some of them aren't extremely expensive, but I do have a few that will drain my bank account if I dare even tried to purchase it right now. I figured in honor of fashion week I’d share three of my favorite designer items on my wish list.

Note: I listed these items from lowest to highest price.

Louis Vuitton

Favorite MM $985

Louis Vuitton is a staple for any fashionista’s closet. From the classic Neverfull MM to the small leather goods, every woman needs a little bit of Louis in their life. I fell for Louis Vuitton back in high school after binge watching several YouTube videos of women unboxing their first handbags from the designer. I couldn’t decide what my first handbag would be. I was stuck between something small and something big. I realized when it came to handbags I would want something I’d be more intrigued to carry more often then a huge bag that I may shy away from. The Favorite MM Cross Body is small enough to make a statement and carry my basics. It's perfect for running around during the day or for an evening out. If there is one item more likely for me to purchase first off this list it would be this bag.

Jimmy Choo

Maine Boot $1,895
I first fell in love with Jimmy Choo when I was around 7 years-old because of Carrie Bradshaw's obsession with the shoe brand on 'Sex and the City'. Since then I knew I would need to own at least one pair of the amazing designer shoes. I find a new pair to love every other month. I've currently been obsessing over the Maine Boot. It’s stunning and makes a great statement with all the colorful embellishments. I love boots, so if I managed to buy this at any point this year, I would see it as an investment. However, I probably won’t be purchasing my first pair of Jimmy Choo’s for some time. Just know that this is one of my most sought after items on my list.

Chanel

Chanel is chic, classic and of course iconic. Like many other women who love Chanel, I’ve always had my eye on the classic Chanel Quilted Jumbo Handbag. My eyes always stare at any woman I spot in NYC carrying this gorgeous bag. It’s a great staple for any closet. It can go with any outfit for any occasion which I love. However, this is one of the most expensive items on my list which I probably won’t purchase for a few years.

I'm thinking of maybe sharing three items off my list every other month? Let me know if you want a post strictly on specific items like handbags.

What luxury item is on your wish list? XO
